Utility Locator

Overview

USIC is looking to hire Utility Locators in the North Shore and Northwest Suburbs with starting pay ranging from $21.00 to $33.00 per hour, based on experience. The company specializes in underground utility damage prevention and advanced infrastructure services, performing over 84 million locates annually for a wide variety of utilities and municipalities across the U.S. This position suits those who enjoy working outdoors independently and have a strong focus on safety and quality.

Primary Duties

• Accurately and safely identify and mark underground utilities such as telecommunications, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems.
• Conduct thorough searches in assigned locations, properly document and photograph findings as part of the locate process.

These roles are daytime, full-time jobs requiring a 48-hour turnaround for many locates, which may involve working holidays, weekends, overtime, and on-call shifts including nights based on business needs.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions; experience outdoors is advantageous.
• Proficient with technology used in daily operations.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and be on call as needed.
• Ability to pass a drug screening due to safety-sensitive status.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and maintaining a safe driving record.
• Capacity to work in confined spaces and perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to distinguish utility marking colors and interpret locate tickets, maps, and construction prints.
• Clear communication skills for interactions with colleagues, clients, contractors, and homeowners.
