Utility Locator

About the Role

USIC, a nationally recognized leader in underground utility damage prevention, is seeking dedicated individuals for the position of Utility Locator at our McHenry, IL location. This role involves independent fieldwork locating underground utilities such as telecommunications, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems. Our company performs over 84 million locates annually nationwide, emphasizing safety, quality, and innovation to protect vital infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely and accurately identify underground utilities within assigned locations.
• Mark utility locations clearly while completing required documentation and photographing each site.

Work Schedule and Conditions

This is a full-time, daytime role requiring flexibility to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts, including nights, based on business demands. A 48-hour turnaround on many locate requests means occasional work the day after holidays or on some weekends. The work is outdoors and may involve various weather conditions.

Candidate Requirements

• Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather; previous outdoor experience preferred.
• Technological proficiency for using company tools and equipment.
• Flexibility to take overtime, weekend shifts, and be available for on-call work as needed.
• Pass a drug screening as a safety-sensitive position.
• Hold a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, walk, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds.
• Color vision sufficient to identify utility markings.
• Ability to read and interpret locate tickets, maps, and prints.
• Effective communication skills with team members, customers, contractors, and homeowners.

Additional Information

A 48-hour turnaround time on locates requires working some holidays, weekends, and on-call shifts.
