About the Role

USIC, a nationally recognized leader in underground utility damage prevention, is seeking dedicated individuals for the position of Utility Locator to serve in the North Shore and Northwest suburbs of Illinois. This full-time, onsite role offers a starting pay from $21.00 to $33.00 per hour depending on prior experience. The ideal candidate enjoys outdoor work, demonstrates a strong commitment to safety and quality, and desires to start or advance a long-term career in utility locating.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and accurately locate underground utilities such as telecommunications, electric, gas, water, sewer, and cable TV systems.
  • Conduct thorough searches of designated areas to identify utility lines, marking their locations precisely.
  • Complete all requisite documentation and take photographs of located utilities to ensure accurate records.

Work Conditions

The position primarily involves daytime hours with a 48-hour turnaround requirement for many locates, necessitating work the day following holidays and some weekends. Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, on-call shifts, including nights and holidays, is necessary to meet business demands.

Candidate Requirements

  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions; prior outdoor work experience preferred.
  • Technologically adept to use modern locating equipment and software.
  • Willingness and availability to work extra hours, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
  • Ability to pass a drug screening as the role is safety sensitive.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Capability to work in confined spaces and physically able to walk, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Good color vision to differentiate marking colors used for utilities.
  • Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and using locate tickets, maps, and blueprints.
  • Clear communication skills to interact effectively with team members, clients, contractors, and property owners.
