Overview
USIC is seeking dedicated Utility Locators to work full-time in the North Shore and Northwest Suburbs around Glencoe, IL. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy outdoor, independent fieldwork and prioritize safety and quality in their work. As a leading company in underground utility damage prevention, USIC performs over 84 million locates annually for various utilities and municipalities nationwide, providing a solid foundation for a long-term career.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately and safely locate underground utilities including telecommunications, electric, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems.
- Conduct thorough searches of assigned areas to identify utility locations, mark them precisely, complete required documentation, and photograph each locate.
- Operate independently in the field using company-provided vehicles and advanced ticket and claim management systems.
- Adhere to a 48-hour turnaround requirement for many locate requests, which may involve working the day after holidays and some weekends.
- Be available for overtime, weekend, and on-call shifts including nights and weekends depending on business needs.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Willingness and ability to perform outdoor work in various weather conditions; prior outdoor work experience is advantageous.
- Technologically proficient to handle job-related equipment and software.
- Availability for overtime, weekend, and on-call shifts as necessary.
- Ability to pass a drug screening, as this is a safety-sensitive position.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Physical capacity to work in confined spaces and perform tasks requiring walking, bending, and lifting up to 75 pounds.
- Color vision capability to differentiate markings associated with underground utilities.
- Ability to read and interpret locate tickets, maps, and technical prints accurately.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with team members, clients, contractors, and homeowners.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting wage ranges from $21.00 per hour for new locators up to $33.00 per hour for those with extensive prior experience.
