About USIC and the Role

USIC is a nationally recognized leader specializing in underground utility damage prevention and infrastructure services. Each year, we conduct over 84 million utility locates supporting a variety of sectors including telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer utilities across the country. Currently, we are seeking dedicated individuals who are problem solvers, safety-conscious, and enjoy working independently outdoors to join us as Utility Locators at our Elgin, IL location.

Key Responsibilities

• Precisely and safely locate underground utilities such as telecommunications cables, electric power lines, cable TV, gas lines, water, and sewer systems.
• Conduct thorough searches in assigned areas, accurately marking utility locations.
• Complete all required documentation and take photographs for each locate performed.

Work Conditions

These daytime, full-time positions often require working the day after holidays and occasional weekends due to a typical 48-hour turnaround on locates. Flexibility to work overtime, weekend shifts, and on-call schedules including nights and weekends is necessary based on business demands.

Requirements

• Willingness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions; prior outdoor work experience is advantageous.
• Comfort and proficiency with technology for documentation and communication purposes.
• Availability to work overtime, weekends, and respond to on-call shifts as needed.
• Must pass a drug screening as this is a safety-sensitive role.
• Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Physical capability to work in confined spaces, walk extensively, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to differentiate colors related to utility marking and wiring identification.
• Competent in reading and understanding locate tickets, maps, and blueprints.
• Effective verbal communication skills to interact with coworkers, customers, contractors, and property owners.

Compensation

The starting wage ranges from $21.00 per hour for entry-level locators and can increase up to $33.00 per hour for candidates with significant prior locating experience.
