About the Role and Company
USIC is a leading organization in underground utility damage prevention and infrastructure services, trusted by over 1,400 utilities and municipalities nationwide. Each year, USIC completes more than 84 million locates for telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer utilities. We seek individuals passionate about outdoor work, safety, and public service to join our team as Utility Locators, providing essential field services to protect community infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately and safely locate underground utilities, including telecommunications, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems.
- Diligently search assigned areas for underground utilities, mark locations precisely, complete thorough documentation, and photograph each locate.
- Operate independently in the field using company-provided vehicles and technology to manage ticket and claims systems efficiently.
- Fulfill scheduling requirements, including working day shifts, holidays, weekends, overtime, and on-call shifts (including nights), ensuring a turnaround time typically within 48 hours of locate requests.
Requirements
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions; previous outdoor experience is advantageous.
- Technologically proficient to utilize advanced locating equipment and management systems.
- Flexible availability to work overtime, weekends, and be on call as needed.
- Successful passing of a drug screening mandatory for safety-sensitive role.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Physical capability to work in confined spaces, walk, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to distinguish color codes used in wiring and underground markings.
- Competency to read and interpret locate tickets, maps, and blueprints.
- Effective communication skills with coworkers, customers, contractors, and homeowners.
