Role Overview
We are seeking a commercially astute and visionary Category Manager to lead the management of key product categories within our merchandise and purchasing team based in Cairns. This role is central to shaping product range decisions, market approach, and fostering strong supplier collaborations that benefit our customers and business.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and implement strategies to grow sales, enhance profit margins, and align categories with emerging market trends.
- Establish and nurture supplier partnerships, negotiate contracts, and assess vendor performance.
- Conduct ongoing market and competitor research to detect pricing trends, product innovations, and new sourcing opportunities.
- Manage pricing, promotional activities, and regular category reviews to maintain competitiveness.
- Collaborate with branch managers and other internal teams to optimize product selection, availability, and in-store presentation.
- Ensure procurement processes comply with quality standards, safety regulations, and legal requirements.
- Keep supplier records up-to-date, oversee budgeting, and contribute to enhancing merchandising procedures.
Candidate Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in merchandise or category management, preferably within hardware, building supplies, or trade retail industries.
- Strong commercial insight and analytical skills with a track record of achieving growth and profitable margins.
- Proficient negotiation skills, excellent communication, and effective stakeholder management.
- Advanced computer proficiency, including Excel and other procurement-related software.
- Comprehensive understanding of supplier sourcing, pricing strategies, and product life cycle management.
- Capability to lead cross-functional teams and support ongoing improvement efforts.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety (WH&S) standards with a dedication to maintaining safety compliance.
- Possession of a valid Queensland manual driver's license.
