Position Overview

The Utility Locator role supports Aecon Utilities' goal of delivering projects more efficiently while prioritizing safety. This position reports to the Locates Supervisor and involves locating underground utilities such as gas, electricity, telecommunications, water, and sewer lines. This unionized role requires membership in the relevant union.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely identify and mark underground utilities using utility records and electronic locating devices.
• Document and manage utility locates through designated software, adhering to procedural documentation standards.
• Complete locate requests assigned by forepersons, coordinators, or superintendents promptly and accurately.
• Interpret infrastructure records to plan and execute locates efficiently.
• Operate company vehicles safely, managing travel logistics to work sites.
• Participate in utility locate project teams as needed.
• Maintain effective communication with supervisors, coordinators, and clients via verbal and written channels.
• Undertake additional assigned duties related to utility locating.

Candidate Qualifications

• Valid Ontario (G) Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
• Self-driven with excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask.
• Capable of independent work with minimal supervision, maintaining productivity.
• Willingness to work extended hours as deadlines require.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks.
• Professional interaction skills with customers and stakeholders.
• Proficient with work management software, email, Microsoft Excel, and Word.
• Experience in public and private utility locating, pre-engineering locates, and gas distribution third-party observation (Vital Main Integrity) is advantageous.
• Previous construction experience is considered beneficial.
• Certification in Damage Prevention Technician (DPT) is a strong asset.

Additional Information

This position is new and unionized, with a pay range of $29 to $39 per hour as defined by the current Collective Agreement. Individual compensation will reflect location, experience, education, certifications, and the complexity of duties.
