Position Overview
The Highways division is recruiting a Grounds Person for the 2025 road construction season, requiring extensive travel across Alberta and Saskatchewan. This role focuses on proficient operation of various rock crusher equipment, including setup, teardown, maintenance, fueling, and daily inspections. Responsibilities include maintaining equipment and site cleanliness, adherence to safety policies, hazard assessments, and understanding silica dust safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere strictly to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policies.
- Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping in all work areas.
- Practice constant situational awareness to ensure safety, especially in blind spots.
- Perform daily maintenance, pre-trip, and post-operation inspections on equipment and generators.
- Care for company property and maintain a safe working environment.
- Be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed.
- Engage actively in Joint Health and Safety Committees and Aecon Safety Toolbox Meetings.
- Report all accidents and incidents promptly.
- Participate in hazard assessments, identify workplace hazards, and implement mitigation strategies effectively.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- At least 3 years of relevant experience operating rock crusher equipment.
- Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Demonstrated silica dust awareness and understanding of related safety precautions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; self-motivated.
- Physical capability to lift more than 40 pounds.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations for Industrial Establishments, WHMIS, Designated Substances, and Smoking in Workplace rules.
- Ability to work under varied climate conditions and be away from home for extended durations.
- Availability for overtime and weekend work as required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic understanding of equipment operation processes.
