The Opportunity

As Ontario's premier utility contractor aiming to become Canada's top utility construction provider, Aecon Utilities focuses on delivering projects faster, smarter, and safer. Reporting to the Locates Supervisor, you will perform utility locates for gas, electricity, telecommunications, water, and sewer systems in Oakville and Cambridge. This position requires union membership upon acceptance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately and safely locate underground utilities using records and electronic locating devices.
  • Utilize locate work management software to field mark and document utility locates following established protocols.
  • Complete locate requests assigned by Foreperson, Coordinator, or Superintendent in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Interpret infrastructure records to plan and carry out utility locates effectively.
  • Operate a company vehicle safely, including planning travel to and from work sites.
  • Collaborate as part of locate project teams when assigned.
  • Maintain professional communication with supervisors and internal/external clients via verbal and written methods.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Valid Ontario G Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Self-driven with excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and maintain productivity.
  • Willingness to work extended hours to meet project deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and accuracy under pressure.
  • Effective prioritization to meet timelines.
  • Professional demeanor when interacting with customers.
  • Proficiency with work management software, Microsoft Excel, Word, and email communication.
  • Experience in public, private, pre-engineering locates, and Vital Main Integrity observation is advantageous.
  • Construction experience is a plus.
  • DPT Certification is highly valued.

Additional Information

This is a unionized role, requiring membership upon hiring. The service areas include Oakville and Cambridge. The pay range is $29 to $39 per hour as outlined in the current Collective Agreement. Individual compensation depends on factors like location, education, experience, skills, certifications, training, and job complexity.
