Job Overview
USIC is seeking dedicated Utility Locators to join our team in Glenview, IL, working full-time onsite across the North Shore and Northwest Suburbs. This role involves independent, outdoor fieldwork focused on safely and accurately locating underground utilities such as telecommunications, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems. We value individuals who are diligent, safety-conscious, and enthusiastic about working in dynamic environments.
Responsibilities
- Accurately and safely identify and mark underground utilities within designated locations.
- Conduct thorough searches for utilities, ensuring precise documentation and photographic evidence are recorded for each locate.
- Utilize company-provided vehicles and advanced ticket and claims management systems during field operations.
- Maintain efficient turnaround with a 48-hour completion target on many tasks, requiring availability on holidays, weekends, overtime, and on-call shifts.
Position Details
The role requires daytime work primarily, with flexibility for weekend and holiday shifts due to business demands. USIC provides comprehensive training for newcomers as well as advancement opportunities for experienced locators.
Requirements
- Readiness to work outdoors under varying weather conditions; prior outdoor experience is advantageous.
- Comfortable and competent in using modern technology tools essential for the role.
- Availability to fulfill overtime, weekend, and on-call requirements as necessary.
- Ability to pass mandatory drug screening consistent with safety-sensitive position standards.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Physical capability to work in confined spaces and perform tasks involving walking, bending, and lifting up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to distinguish color codes used for wiring identification and marking.
- Proficient in reading, interpreting, and referencing locate tickets, maps, and technical prints.
- Effective communication skills for interaction with team members, clients, contractors, and homeowners.
Compensation
The hourly pay range starts at $21.00 for entry-level locators, increasing up to $33.00 per hour for those with extensive prior experience.
