About the Company

A prominent transport and logistics operator based in Huddersfield, part of a larger transport group specializing in high-volume, fast-paced distribution where precision and dependability are critical.

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Transport Planner to join the Huddersfield team, contributing to seamless daily operations by managing driver schedules, reconciling prior day activities, and ensuring smooth transition between planning shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and oversee driver scheduling and route management to satisfy delivery commitments.
  • Reconcile activities from the preceding day, confirming all tasks, hours, and documentation are accurately finalized.
  • Create detailed and precise handovers for subsequent planning teams.
  • Engage with drivers, depot personnel, and clients to troubleshoot and maintain operational fluidity.
  • Monitor driver working hours for compliance with transport regulations, including the Working Time Directive.
  • Handle daily operational challenges such as delays, vehicle breakdowns, and route adjustments.
  • Keep meticulous records using transport planning software.

Candidate Profile

  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, maintaining composure under pressure.
  • Confident communicator adept at fostering positive relationships with drivers, colleagues, and clients.
  • Organized and able to prioritize effectively within a dynamic workload.
  • Proficient with IT and able to quickly learn new systems.
  • Flexible to work a shift system of 4 days on and 4 days off covering either 6am-6pm or 7am-7pm; occasional night shifts may be needed to cover absences.
  • Prior experience in transport planning is advantageous but not essential; strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills are equally valued.

Shift Pattern and Additional Information

  • Shift pattern of four days on followed by four days off, with shifts from either 6am to 6pm or 7am to 7pm.
  • Occasional night shifts required during sickness or holiday periods coverage.
