Transport and Logistics Manager

Position Overview

We are looking for a proactive Logistics and Transport Manager to oversee and enhance our logistics and transportation activities spanning three inventory sites and supplier delivery channels. The role is key to ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of incoming steel materials to our stocking points and manufacturing unit, alongside the outbound deliveries to customers throughout the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and mainland UK.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily transport operations at three stock sites, including scheduling and routing to maximize fuel economy and fleet use while minimizing per-load expenses.
• Guarantee prompt, accurate deliveries in line with customer demands and project timelines.
• Maintain consistent logistics and transport standards by enforcing adherence to SOPs.
• Coordinate with production, procurement, and sales teams to synchronize logistics with demand and optimize load weight and routing.
• Manage inbound raw materials deliveries to maintain stock levels for production.
• Support project-oriented deliveries, especially in construction, with strict scheduling adherence.
• Address delivery inquiries to limit delays and service disruptions, working closely with sales to maintain superior customer service.
• Build and manage relationships with transport providers to refine logistic processes, involving contract negotiations and monitoring provider performance.
• Ensure safe and efficient loading/unloading per company health and safety policies.
• Comply fully with transport laws, health and safety regulations, and industry standards.
• Ensure all deliveries, whether from stock or direct suppliers, are backed with accurate, compliant documentation.
• Maintain real-time accuracy of ERP data related to shipments.
• Ensure sales invoices are issued at shipment time, aligning with revenue recognition and financial controls.
• Track and improve KPIs like OTIF, cost per tonne delivered, and stock transfer expenses by location and overall.
• Ensure logistics operations are dependable, scalable, and economical to support expansion.
• Collaborate with IT & Process Improvement and Operations Managers to develop and implement superior transport and logistics practices.
• Promote the use of technology tools such as ERP, TMS, and digital planning to improve visibility, efficiency, and control across locations and suppliers.
• Drive a culture focused on continuous improvement and data-led decision making within the transport and logistics teams.

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum five years’ experience in logistics or transport management, preferably within manufacturing.
• Degree in supply chain, logistics, business, engineering, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
• Strong background overseeing inbound and outbound logistics, especially bulk or heavy materials; steel industry experience is a plus.
• Proven ability to implement cost reductions and streamline logistics processes.
• Experience using ERP systems and transport/logistics software such as TMS and WMS.
• Comprehensive knowledge of transport laws, safety protocols, and regulatory compliances.
• Proven expertise managing third-party logistics providers and negotiating transportation contracts.
• Understanding of warehouse management, inventory control, and production planning is beneficial.
