Position Summary
The Traffic Control Flagger is tasked with managing vehicle flow around construction zones and maintenance sites to ensure the safety of workers and the public. Responsibilities include setting up and removing traffic control devices such as signs, cones, and barricades. The role demands use of hand signals, signage, and other control devices to safely guide motorists. This job involves working outdoors in changing weather, standing for long periods, and interacting safely with moving traffic and equipment.
Essential Duties
- Deploy and remove signs, cones, barricades to redirect traffic in work zones.
- Control traffic using stop/slow paddles efficiently.
- Maintain communication with colleagues through two-way radios.
- Stand and walk extensively, reaching and lifting items exceeding 50 pounds.
- Operate company vehicles for transporting equipment to job sites.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections and upkeep for operational safety.
- Work amid variable weather, noise levels, traffic, fumes, and machinery.
- Follow all company policies and procedures diligently.
- Perform other assigned tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Successful clearance of background checks including motor vehicle records.
- Passing drug screening and compliance with federal DOT standards.
- Adherence to safety equipment requirements: work boots with safety toes, hard hat, safety glasses, reflective vest.
- Proficient operation of two-way radios.
- Able and willing to work in diverse weather and traffic environments.
- Effective communicator with contractors and internal team members, showing strong customer service skills.
- Team-oriented, reliable with excellent attendance and strong job commitment.
- Completion of ATSSA Flagger training and company Defensive Driver training is mandatory.
- Ready to travel within the state including occasional overnight trips, with availability for nights, weekends, and on-call rotations.
