Position Overview

The Traffic Control Flagger directs vehicle movement around construction, road maintenance, and other job sites to ensure safe passage for workers and the public. Duties involve installing and removing traffic control equipment such as signs, cones, and barricades, using hand signals, signs, and paddles to manage traffic flow effectively. This role requires consistent attention to safety, outdoor work in all weather conditions, and standing for long periods.

Core Responsibilities

• Place and remove traffic control devices around work zones to direct vehicle flow.
• Utilize stop/slow paddles to manage traffic movement safely.
• Maintain open communication with team members using two-way radios.
• Stand, walk, and perform manual tasks for up to 10 hours daily.
• Lift and move loads exceeding 50 pounds as necessary.
• Operate company vehicles to transport equipment to various sites.
• Conduct routine vehicle inspections and upkeep to ensure operational safety.
• Work in environments exposed to outdoor elements, active machinery, moving vehicles, and airborne particles with variable noise levels.
• Follow all company rules and procedures strictly.
• Carry out additional tasks assigned by management.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Valid driver's license is mandatory.
• Successful completion of background check including motor vehicle records.
• Pass drug screening and comply with federal Department of Transportation standards.
• Adhere to personal protective equipment guidelines: wear safety boots with toes, hard hat, safety glasses, and high-visibility vest.
• Proficient in operating two-way radio communications.
• Capable of working in diverse weather and traffic environments.
• Strong communication skills for effective interaction with contractors and internal teams, maintaining high customer service standards.
• Ability to collaborate well within a team setting.
• Exemplary attendance, dependable transportation, and strong work ethic required.
• Completion of ATSSA Flagger certification and company-led Defensive Driver training course.
• Willingness to travel across the state with possible overnight accommodations and availability to work nights and weekends depending on project needs.
• Availability for rotating on-call duties.
