Role Overview
The Flagger II is entrusted with directing vehicular traffic safely around construction and maintenance zones. This position entails deploying and removing traffic control signage, cones, and barricades to safeguard workers and the public. Utilizing hand signals, signs, and other control devices, the Flagger communicates effectively with motorists to facilitate safe passage through or around work areas. The role demands acute attention to detail, endurance for outdoor work in diverse weather, and the ability to stand for extended periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and position traffic control signs, cones, and devices to reroute vehicles safely.
- Manage traffic flow proficiently using stop/slow paddles.
- Maintain clear communication with the work crew via two-way radios.
- Stay on feet and reach regularly for up to 10 hours daily.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and manipulating items heavier than 50 pounds as needed.
- Operate company vehicles transporting equipment to and from sites.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections and upkeep to ensure operational safety.
- Endure exposure to outdoor weather elements, moving machinery, traffic, fumes, and noise ranging from moderate to loud.
- Strictly follow all company policies and procedures.
- Perform any other assigned duties.
Qualifications and Skills
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Successful completion of background and motor vehicle record checks.
- Pass drug screening and meet all federal Department of Transportation standards.
- Adherence to safety gear requirements: safety toe boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and reflective vest.
- Proficient operation of two-way radio communication devices.
- Willingness and physical ability to work in varying weather and traffic conditions.
- Strong communication skills with contractors and internal teams to maintain high customer service standards.
- Capability to work cooperatively within a team.
- Exemplary attendance, dependable transportation, and a dedicated work ethic.
- Completion of ATSSA Flagger certification and company defensive driving training.
- Readiness to travel within the state, including overnight stays, and availability for night and weekend assignments.
- Availability for rotating on-call duties.
