Position Overview

The Traffic Control Flagger is tasked with managing vehicular movement around construction zones, road maintenance sites, and other work areas to ensure the safety of workers and the general public. This role entails deploying and retrieving various traffic control apparatus such as signs, cones, and barricades. Through hand signals and traffic control tools, the Flagger directs motorists safely through or circumventing the active work environment. The position demands high attention to detail while working outdoors under varying weather conditions and maintaining prolonged periods of standing.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Deploy traffic control devices including signs and cones to reroute traffic around work areas.
• Manage traffic flow with stop/slow paddles effectively.
• Maintain clear communication via two-way radios with team members.
• Stand, walk, and use hands actively for up to 10 hours daily.
• Lift, carry, push, pull, and move equipment exceeding 50 pounds.
• Drive company vehicles to transport equipment to job locations.
• Conduct routine inspections and maintenance checks on vehicles ensuring operational safety.
• Work consistently in outdoor conditions, exposed to environmental elements, moving machinery, traffic, noise, and airborne particles.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures.
• Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Clear background check including driving records.
• Pass drug screening and meet federal Department of Transportation standards.
• Wear necessary safety gear including work boots with safety toes, hard hat, safety glasses, and safety vest.
• Proficient in operating two-way radios.
• Adapt to varying weather and traffic conditions while maintaining professionalism and responsibility.
• Communicate effectively with contractors and internal teams, upholding high customer service standards.
• Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
• Exhibit consistent attendance, reliable personal transportation, and a committed work ethic.
• Completion of the ATSSA Flagger certification and company-provided Defensive Driver training.
• Availability for statewide travel including occasional overnight stays and flexibility for night and weekend shifts based on project demands.
• Willingness to participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
