Position Summary

The Traffic Control Flagger is tasked with managing and directing vehicle movement safely around construction zones, road maintenance areas, and other work sites. The role demands setting up and removing traffic control devices like signs, cones, and barricades to protect both the workforce and the general public. Communication with motorists is achieved through hand signals, signage, and other control tools to ensure safe navigation through or around these work zones. The job necessitates strong attention to detail, the ability to work outdoors in varied weather, and endurance for prolonged standing.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Arrange and dismantle traffic control signs, cones, and barricades around designated work areas.
  • Use stop/slow paddles effectively to control traffic flow.
  • Maintain consistent and clear communications with team members via two-way radios.
  • Stand, walk, and reach repeatedly for up to 10 hours daily.
  • Lift, carry, push, pull, or move items weighing over 50 pounds.
  • Operate company vehicles to transport traffic safety equipment to job locations.
  • Conduct routine inspections and perform basic maintenance on vehicles to ensure operational safety.
  • Work in outdoor environments exposed to weather elements, moving machinery parts, traffic, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Operate under moderate to high noise levels typical of traffic and construction zones.
  • Comply with all corporate policies and procedures.
  • Perform any additional tasks as directed by supervisors.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of background screening, including driving record checks.
  • Passing of required drug tests and adherence to federal Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Use of proper personal protective equipment such as safety-toe boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and safety vest.
  • Proficiency in operating two-way radio communication devices.
  • Comfort working outdoors in diverse weather and traffic conditions.
  • Strong communication skills for liaising effectively with contractors and internal team members while maintaining excellent customer service.
  • Ability to collaborate well within a team environment.
  • Dependable attendance, ownership of reliable transportation, and a dedicated work ethic.
  • Completion of the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Flagger training and company-led Defensive Driver training.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the state with occasional overnight stays and flexibility to work nights and weekends as project demands.
  • Availability for rotating on-call scheduling.
