Role Overview
This role involves managing and directing vehicular flow around construction zones and road maintenance areas to ensure safety for both workers and the public. Responsibilities include setting up and dismantling traffic control devices such as signs, cones, and barricades, using hand signals and signs to communicate with motorists, and maintaining situational awareness in various weather conditions. The position demands physical stamina to stand and walk for extended durations and handle equipment exceeding 50 pounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Install traffic control signs, cones, and barricades at work zones for directing traffic.
- Manage traffic flow effectively using stop/slow paddles to control movement.
- Maintain clear two-way radio communication with team members on-site.
- Engage in physically demanding tasks including prolonged standing, walking, and lifting heavy items.
- Operate company vehicles to transport equipment to and from job sites, performing routine vehicle maintenance and inspections.
- Work safely amidst varying weather, moving machinery, traffic, and environmental hazards such as fumes and noise.
- Comply rigorously with all company policies and safety protocols.
- Perform additional duties as required by management.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Successful completion of background checks including motor vehicle records review and drug screening in accordance with federal DOT standards.
- Completion of ATSSA Flagger training and company Defensive Driver course.
- Adherence to safety equipment requirements: safety-toe boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and reflective vest.
- Proficiency with two-way radios for team communication.
- Ability to work under diverse weather conditions and manage traffic scenarios professionally.
- Strong customer service skills with effective communication towards contractors and internal staff.
- Team-oriented mindset with excellent attendance records and reliable transportation.
- Availability for statewide travel, overnight stays, night, weekend shifts, and rotating on-call duties as project demands.
