Project Background

Bechtel boasts 80 years of experience in complex and busy airport projects globally, including significant contributions to airports in the GCC region such as King Khalid, King Fahad, Dubai, Hamad, and Muscat. Currently, Saudi Arabian Bechtel Company is engaged as a Project Management Consultant for developing King Salman International Airport in Riyadh, designed to handle up to 120 million travelers by 2030 and 185 million by 2050, with cargo capacity of 3.5 million tons by 2050. This project involves three new terminals with varying capacities and functions, including a low-cost carrier terminal, an iconic terminal, and a private aviation terminal with VIP facilities.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Project BIM Manager, the BIM Lead – 4D will architect and execute the digital vision and Project Information Management strategy for aviation infrastructure projects. The role demands expertise in BIM within airport infrastructure to ensure integration of digital solutions into design and construction phases. The BIM Lead champions innovation and provides expert advice on emerging technologies to both project leadership and clients, focusing on enhancing project delivery.

The individual will lead 4D modeling and visualization efforts, coordinate sequencing, develop processes, and ensure digital construction practices align with project needs. They will promote best practices to improve efficiency and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain 4D models integrating design, construction, and planning data using tools such as Synchro or Fuzor.
• Lead the 4D sequencing programs linking BIM models to project schedules for simulation, progress tracking, and reporting.
• Manage coordination, review of 4D planning activities, and ensure alignment with timelines.
• Provide regular reporting on 4D model progress, issues, and corrective measures; support integration with digital engineering.
• Drive innovation and continuous enhancement of 4D workflows and data management.
• Develop strategies for combined use of 4D modeling, visualization, and digital construction for optimized execution.
• Assist the Project Management Information Systems team with presentations and training on 4D modeling use.
• Train project stakeholders on interpreting 4D data to support informed decision-making and delivery.
• Assist in managing the Common Data Environment (CDE), including model federation and quality control.
• Create workflows for model-based quantity take-offs to enable reporting and forecasting.
• Coordinate BIM activities across consultants and subcontractors, maintaining standards for coordination, clash management, and models.
• Provide training on BIM workflows and CDE tools such as ACC, Aconex, Revizto, and ArcGIS.
• Conduct assessments of BIM Execution Plan implementation, capturing lessons and improving workflows.
• Serve as a liaison among customers, project groups, and IT to resolve BIM challenges and support seamless operations.
• Support BIM coordinators including third-party BIM leads.
• Participate in design and construction review meetings managing issues and aligning outcomes.
• Collaborate strategically with stakeholders to mitigate risks and assure quality deliverables.
• Prepare and present documentation and updates to senior leadership.
• Develop and uphold BIM standards and protocols.
• Oversee BIM model development through all project phases up to LOD 500 across all disciplines.
• Facilitate smooth information transitions between design consultants and contractors, including reviewing deliverables and ensuring clash-free constructible models.
• Deliver BIM tool training and support team members.
• Contribute to BIM-enabled progress reporting and schedule validation.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management with 10+ years of project delivery experience, or Master’s degree with 8+ years.
• At least 5 years as a BIM or CAD Manager/BIM Lead, experienced in leveraging BIM technology for design and construction.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Mastery of 4D planning software, mainly Synchro, along with various BIM and GIS tools supporting 4D applications.
• Solid technical expertise in core disciplines, preferably in airport terminal projects or similar complex facilities.
• Proficiency with Revit, InfraWorks, Twinmotion, Unity, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
• Experience creating BIM templates, standards, classification, and data models for large projects.
• Understanding of different project delivery methods including Design-Bid-Build, Design/Build, Integrated Project Delivery, and LEAN methodologies.
• Familiarity with Common Data Environment platforms such as ACC/BIM 360, ProjectWise, and Aconex.
• Experience with collaboration and data management tools like Navisworks, Assemble, and CostOS.
