Role Overview

The Survey Assistant position (Entry Level Grademan) is an excellent opportunity for those beginning their careers in land surveying and development. Collaborating closely with experienced surveyors, you will gather crucial site data and support a variety of field activities. This entry-level post suits candidates with basic surveying knowledge who are motivated to develop their skills through comprehensive training and mentorship.

Key Duties

• Assist in preparing documentation, drawings, and geographic maps.
• Generate tables, graphs, and drawings illustrating cut, fill, and balance options for sites when required.
• Set up, operate, and dismantle various survey equipment, including tripods, lasers, and survey rods.
• Conduct layout for fill areas, preload reference points, and building locations.
• Clear vegetation and debris from survey lines to ensure clear access.
• Install stakes for layout purposes accurately.
• Transport and handle necessary tools and materials for fieldwork.
• Verify elevations, volumes, and locations of on-site infrastructure and services.
• Help calculate angles necessary for plotting slopes and other land features.
• Explore outdoor environments to document and record geographical data.
• Mark property boundaries using surveying instruments and measurement devices.
• Perform duties outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Be prepared to work extended hours if needed to complete surveying assignments as directed by lead surveyors.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Educational background or experience related to geomatics, land surveying, or a comparable discipline.
• Familiarity with GPS survey equipment is beneficial; comprehensive training will be offered.
• Possession of a valid British Columbia driver's license with access to a personal vehicle (transportation to job sites will be coordinated from a meeting point).
• Physical ability to lift weight up to 25 pounds.
• Dependable, punctual, proactive with a strong initiative.
• Effective communication abilities and a cooperative team-oriented mindset.
• High attention to detail in all responsibilities.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary for this role depends on experience and qualifications. Individuals who demonstrate outstanding performance may also be eligible for additional bonuses under Beedie's pay-for-performance program. Pay decisions consider market factors, education, skills, experience, and organizational requirements.
