About the Role
We are looking for a proficient Storage Engineer skilled in managing both on-premises and cloud storage platforms. This position demands advanced technical problem-solving abilities, scripting for automation, thorough documentation, and guidance to junior staff members. Familiarity with large-scale block and file storage systems, along with AWS storage services such as S3 and FSX, is essential. The role is hands-on and requires adaptability to emerging technologies. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be part of the Operations team, adhering to best practices throughout the planning and execution of daily operational tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver escalated support for on-prem and cloud storage infrastructures, resolving complex technical challenges by collaborating with systems, network, and application engineers; also provide backup support for compute platforms.
- Handle storage provisioning tasks, including block, file, and object storage volume setup across on-premises and public clouds, and configure on-prem hardware as per infrastructure team designs.
- Maintain and optimize storage systems by performing updates, patching vulnerabilities, managing maintenance windows, and sustaining system reliability and security; oversee dedicated iSCSI storage networks and conduct compatibility reviews for upgrades.
- Engage in projects related to storage technology implementation and service enhancements.
- Manage ticket escalations by tracking and resolving issues effectively, maintaining communication updates, following hand-off protocols, and elevating tickets when necessary.
- Supervise various storage platforms such as HPE Qumulo, InfoSight, HPE Alletra, and AWS, including installation, configuration, and patch management.
- Develop and implement scripts using PowerShell or Bash to assist storage management and reporting for both on-premises and cloud environments.
- Document procedures extensively, creating FAQs, knowledge base content, troubleshooting manuals, and standard operating procedures.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior team members, enhancing their ability to manage complex storage-related problems.
- Adapt flexibly to different assigned tasks within evolving technological contexts.
- Participate in alert response and on-call rotations, responding to critical notifications during and outside normal working hours.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in IT or eDiscovery environments.
- Proven hands-on expertise with on-prem storage arrays and cloud storage services (AWS S3, FSX) and knowledge of HPE storage products.
- Strong knowledge of storage networking protocols such as iSCSI with Jumbo frames, SMB/NFS for file storage, and the S3 protocol for object storage.
- Solid experience working with Windows Server editions and Linux operating systems.
- Proficient scripting skills in PowerShell and/or Bash.
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies (Microsoft Hyper-V), Active Directory, Group Policies, networking configurations, and firewall rules.
- Working understanding of IT best practices, protocols, and ITIL methodologies.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
- Capability to work independently and collaborate across global teams in different time zones.
- Willingness to occasionally perform maintenance work during evenings or weekends as required.
Preferred Skills
- Certifications such as HPE storage, AWS, ITIL v3 or v4 Foundations, or equivalent credentials.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills covering virtualization, operating systems, and networking.
- Familiarity with scripting and automation tools like Python, Ansible, Terraform, or similar DevOps tools.
Physical & Work Conditions
- Extended periods of desk work and computer use are expected.
- The company provides 100% telecommute positions, comprehensive medical insurance, shift and holiday allowances, and flexible time off benefits.
