Role Summary

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our team focused on building AI agents within Toast's Team area, a vital component of our Fintech business line. This role involves designing, developing, and deploying autonomous agents that revolutionize how restaurant owners handle staff management and labor optimization by combining advanced AI with practical restaurant operations.

Responsibilities

• Actively develop and launch Team Agent products leveraging large language models (LLMs) and agentic development frameworks.
• Engage in full-stack development challenges, executing end-to-end tasks within a cooperative and supportive team environment.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to build autonomous workforce management agents.
• Participate in system design, task estimation, implementation, testing, and debugging of comprehensive agent solutions.
• Promote the adoption of cutting-edge spec-driven and agentic development methodologies.
• Provide mentorship by collaborating through code-pairing and conducting thorough code, architecture, and project reviews.
• Lead best practices for agent software development, deployment procedures, and quality assurance life cycles.
• Contribute actively to product design conversations and priority setting for the Team Agent domain.

Qualifications

• Strong programming foundation in Java, Kotlin, or other object-oriented languages.
• Proficiency with modern web technologies such as React, TypeScript, RESTful APIs, and GraphQL.
• Experience or a strong interest in implementing coding agents and adopting agentic development methodologies.
• Enthusiasm for constructing autonomous AI agents and working with large language models.
• A solid history of building cross-functional partnerships with engineering, product, and customer success teams.
• Experience mentoring colleagues and promoting high standards of code quality.
• Commitment to quality by maintaining and encouraging excellence in technical deliverables.
• Strong empathy for customers, coupled with a dedication to enhancing user experience through robust and continuously improved technical solutions.

Preferred Skills

• Background in designing agentic products.
