Sidekick Machines is an AI startup focused on building and maintaining AI agents for enterprise clients. A key challenge faced by many agent projects is managing infrastructure components like identity, security, integrations, approvals, monitoring, and costs. To address this, Sidekick built its own platform called Sidekick using Microsoft's agent stack, enabling engineers to concentrate on core development while supporting every agent deployed.

Role Overview

As a Software Engineer on the Sidekick platform team, you will develop the foundational platform powering every AI agent delivered. This platform allows frontend developers to deploy agents without repeatedly reconstructing functionalities such as identity management, security, integrations, and monitoring. Reporting directly to the CTO and Head of Engineering, you'll participate closely in architectural decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the agent runtime system, which handles loading skills, tool invocation, hook execution, human approval processes, and resumption.
• Implement identity and security mechanisms for agents leveraging Microsoft Entra and Agent 365.
• Design and operate distributed services on Kubernetes that reliably run at enterprise-scale.
• Manage access to models and evaluation processes on Microsoft Foundry.
• Build tracing, evaluation, and cost tracking tools utilized by the operations team.

Candidate Profile

• 5 to 10 years of experience demonstrating strong software engineering fundamentals with a history of shipping production-grade systems.
• Proficiency in some of the following: Kubernetes, distributed systems, microservices architecture, identity and authentication standards (OAuth, OpenID Connect), harness or developer platform engineering.
• Strong design judgment favoring simplicity, readable code, and balanced trade-offs.
• Experienced user of AI-assisted coding tools with an understanding of how to leverage them effectively.
• Ability to take complete ownership of deliverables, managing them end-to-end.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with large language models (LLMs), agent frameworks, or multi-cloud platforms (MCP).
• Familiarity with Azure cloud services.

Compensation
