About the Team and Role

The Cisco Common Platform Services (CCPS) team is pioneering the transformation of Cisco's software-as-a-service delivery by creating a modern, unified platform that is designed to be secure and consistent globally. Our international team excels in innovative hybrid cloud environment management, prioritizing infrastructure and operational efficiency. Leveraging extensive expertise in Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS), we offer repeatable and portable deployment models that accelerate and secure application rollout.

Within the CCPS, the Cloud Software & Solutions (CSS) group focuses on building OpenStack and Kubernetes platform solutions, emphasizing quality, system stability, user-focused simplification, scalability, and performance optimization. We seek a Software Engineer dedicated to developing scalable, cloud-native applications and underlying services.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement core capabilities across the cloud-native ecosystem, focusing on Kubernetes layers and foundational infrastructure.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance automation and tools to manage Kubernetes cluster lifecycles, including configuration and upgrades.
• Create and upgrade platform components supporting Kubernetes networking, storage, security, and resource control.
• Collaborate closely with Site Reliability Engineering, security, networking, and application teams to ensure platform robustness and scalability.
• Utilize AI-assisted engineering tools to boost productivity, enforce code quality, and streamline troubleshooting efforts.
• Engage in on-call schedules, participate in incident response, and contribute to post-incident analyses to uphold platform reliability.

Basic Qualifications

• At least four years of experience in software development or cloud/platform engineering environments.
• Proficient in Go (Golang) or Python programming languages.
• Practical experience with Kubernetes and associated cloud-native technologies.
• Comprehensive understanding of networking concepts and fundamentals.
• Demonstrated capability in debugging and resolving issues within complex, large-scale systems.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools such as Terraform.
• Experience working with one or more major public cloud providers (AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).
• Use of AI-assisted engineering tools to enhance development efficiency and code quality.
• Skills with observability technologies, including Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing large-scale or multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters.
• Knowledge of OpenStack environments in private or hybrid cloud contexts.
• Competence in test-driven development and testing frameworks.
• Understanding of security scanning, managing vulnerabilities, and compliance standards such as SOC 2, PCI-DSS, and GDPR.
• Hands-on experience with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), GitOps, or tools that enable developer platforms.
