Role Overview

The Product-Led Growth (PLG) team is responsible for developing in-product experiences that assist restaurants in discovering, trialing, purchasing, and adopting Toast's offerings. This team manages services and interfaces that determine which restaurants receive certain offers, facilitate purchase and activation within the product, and evaluate success based on measurable revenue-related outcomes. They aim to transition from manually constructed campaigns to a scalable platform enabling faster experimentation.

In this role, you will deploy experiments into production, analyze metrics, and plan future iterations. You will build reusable core services to improve the speed and efficiency of launching new tests. Collaboration with product, marketing, sales operations, and data science teams is essential to transform hypotheses into targeted experiences and validate them with data.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead complete development cycles of backend systems powering product growth features such as eligibility, targeting, offer delivery, self-service purchasing, activation, and conversion tracking, continuously iterating based on data.
• Create and enhance shared infrastructure that streamlines launching new experiments, including reusable targeting and eligibility modules, campaign configuration tools, and scalable purchase workflows.
• Develop and maintain integrations with dependent systems like propensity scoring engines, Toast IQ recommendations, content management system-driven campaign controls, and billing, contracting, and provisioning tools to allow seamless in-product purchases.
• Design and implement experiences powered by large language models (LLMs) on Toast IQ, including prompt engineering, evaluation, and production monitoring.
• Establish instrumentation for experiments and attribution to ensure every launch includes robust metrics for assessing success and facilitate rapid decision-making to scale or terminate features.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, design, marketing, sales, and data science to convert business objectives like customer adoption and upsell targets into concrete, testable product improvements.
• Participate in architectural and technical design discussions and set engineering best practices as the team grows.
• Provide mentorship to fellow engineers through code reviews, pairing sessions, and technical guidance.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

• Minimum five years of experience in software engineering, specifically building and maintaining backend production systems using Kotlin, Java, or a similar object-oriented programming language, with additional experience in full-stack development to deliver front-end updates when necessary.
• Demonstrated ownership of features throughout full lifecycle stages, including design, delivery, performance tracking, and iterative enhancement.
• A product-centric mindset with a readiness to make decisions, deploy solutions, and iteratively improve based on actual user behavior, collaborating closely with product, design, and sales teams.
• Experience with experimentation methodologies such as A/B testing and understanding attribution models to explain metric shifts and validate results.
• Background in building or experimenting with AI platforms or large language models, with particular interest in agent-based architectures and tool integration being advantageous.
• Experience developing customer-oriented features on data-centric products including scoring models, segmentation, or recommendation engines is a plus.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and balance trade-offs between rapid delivery and scalability.
• Proficiency with AI-related tools like Claude, Cursor, and MCP servers.

Work Arrangement

This position is hybrid requiring two days per week in the Dublin office for in-person collaboration.
