Join Canva's Client Platform team dedicated to delivering exceptional user experiences across all devices. This group underpins every product team, managing foundational technology like Web Platform, Mobile Platform, and user-facing product surfaces used by hundreds of millions worldwide. The Mobile Platform team focuses on how Canva performs on iOS and Android, emphasizing mobile performance and cross-platform scalability to shape the future of Canva's mobile experiences.

Role Overview

Canva is transitioning its mobile app from web-based technologies to a hybrid stack combining React Native and React DOM. This approach allows one shared codebase across iOS, Android, and web without sacrificing native-level performance. Components requiring high performance such as video, rendering, and streaming are built using Rust and C++.

In this role, you will be the React Native authority guiding engineers to adapt from browser-centric development to mobile-first React Native architectures. You will determine when to use pure React Native, when to leverage native implementations, and how to ensure the platform performs reliably at production scale. Responsibilities may include platform tools development, performance optimizations, and mentoring teammates to deepen their React Native expertise.

What We’re Looking For

• Practical experience using React Native at scale in complex technical environments within large organizations.
• Proven ability to diagnose and solve performance challenges in React Native applications.
• Strong technical credibility with knowledge of React Native's limitations and experience in persuading stakeholders through detailed trade-off analyses.
• Influence beyond immediate teams through documentation, tooling, and collaborative efforts driving improved practices.
• Active engagement in software development evidenced by recent code contributions, design documentation, and code reviews.
• Familiarity with AI tools applied in frontend or mobile software engineering contexts.

Preferred Additional Experience

• Leadership or organizational influence in teams with numerous contributors.
• Comfort working with Rust or C++ in mobile performance-critical scenarios.
• Contributions to open-source projects related to React Native or the React ecosystem.
• Deep knowledge of design systems or component libraries.
