Job description

About KLA

KLA is a worldwide leader in diversified electronics, specifically serving the semiconductor manufacturing industry. Our innovative technologies are integral to the production of nearly every electronic device including laptops, smartphones, wearables, VR devices, and smart automobiles. We focus heavily on innovation, reinvesting 15% of our sales into research and development. Our expert teams comprising physicists, engineers, and data scientists collaborate closely with leading technology providers to speed up the creation of next generation electronic products. The work environment is dynamic and challenging, fostering a culture of tackling complex scientific problems.

Group Overview

The Office of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) plays a pivotal role in developing advanced future-focused technologies such as lasers, light sources, and sensors. This group partners with product divisions and strategic marketing to transition mature technologies into product solutions. It also provides technical guidance for strategic plans, program reviews, and product lifecycle phases across KLA.

Job Role and Responsibilities

  • Investigate novel laser sustained plasma (LSP) technologies through simulations and experiments to understand light-matter interactions and plasma system performance.
  • Perform independent and team-based research involving plasma characterization and analysis of experimental data to validate plasma performance targets.
  • Design architectures for LSP prototypes that satisfy system-level requirements with considerations for performance, reliability, maintainability, and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with laser, optics, and target manufacturing experts to develop experimental platforms that validate feasibility and mitigate technical risks.
  • Document and communicate experimental designs, results, and concepts clearly; work with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, electrical, software, and optical engineers to achieve final objectives.

Desired Expertise

  • Hands-on experience assembling and operating intricate optical benches.
  • Knowledge of laser-induced or laser-sustained plasma challenges, nuclear physics, or high energy physics.
  • Academic background in plasma physics, fluid mechanics, nuclear or atomic physics, or related disciplines.
  • Familiarity with simulation software such as COMSOL or Ansys for plasma modeling.
  • Proficiency in data analytics using tools like IDL, MATLAB, or Python.
  • Strong teamwork capacity with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Minimum Qualification

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, or a closely associated scientific field.
