Job description
About the Role
DSO National Laboratories is Singapore's premier defence research and development entity tasked with enhancing national security through cutting-edge technological solutions. As part of the Quantum Sensing Programme, this role involves the development of atomic quantum sensors aimed at creating strategic defence capabilities for the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
Key Responsibilities
- Design quantum sensors focused on inertial, magnetic, or radio frequency sensing using cold atoms or atomic vapours.
- Develop and assess sensing methodologies such as cold-atom interferometry, optically pumped magnetometry, and Rydberg atom RF sensing.
- Construct, assemble, and characterize experimental setups involving lasers, optics, atomic spectroscopy, and quantum control systems.
- Collaborate with software and system engineers as well as stakeholders to convert laboratory prototypes into compact, durable, and deployable systems suited for field tests.
- Investigate and assess emerging atomic sensing technologies to understand their performance capabilities and operational benefits.
Candidate Profile
- Holds a PhD, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Applied Physics, Physics, or Engineering Science.
- Possesses relevant research or experimental exposure in atomic, molecular or optical physics; laser physics; atomic spectroscopy; and/or cold atom technologies.
- Experienced in hands-on work with lasers, optical alignment, laser frequency stabilization, atomic vapour cells, vacuum systems, or experimental control and automation.
- Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Capable of rapid learning, working independently, and effectively navigating ambiguous technical challenges towards concrete results.
