Staff Embedded Software Engineer

Company Overview

QT Technologies Ireland Limited is seeking a Staff Embedded Software Engineer to join their Data Center AI Software team. The role involves developing firmware and platform software for next-generation cloud-scale AI and compute systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee design, implementation, integration, and maintenance of significant firmware features across SoC, board, and platform layers.
• Lead technical efforts in areas such as inter-processor communication, connectivity, telemetry, diagnostics, logging, high-speed debug tracing, profiling, SR-IOV, virtualization, time synchronization, and platform services.
• Drive platform bring-up activities including hardware/software integration and system-level validation and troubleshooting.
• Deliver high-quality C/C++ code along with unit tests, design documentation, and validation plans within a structured development environment.
• Lead design and code reviews, managing risk assessments and facilitating decision-making towards practical solutions.
• Perform root cause analysis through embedded debugging tools like JTAG and trace; implement effective corrective actions.
• Enhance observability, debuggability, automated testing, CI, and validation practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, Linux, RTOS, infrastructure, security, validation, and product groups to deliver reliable firmware.
• Assist in resolving production issues, providing clear communication on findings and corrective measures.
• Mentor junior engineers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
• Participate in technical planning and roadmap discussions, identifying dependencies and risks.
• Promote engineering excellence and continuous improvements across projects.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in embedded firmware or low-level system software engineering.
• Proficient in C and C++; familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
• Demonstrated ability to design and deliver complex firmware features from requirements through integration and validation.
• Experience with SoC bring-up, board support packages, device drivers, boot loaders, hardware/software integration, and system debugging.
• Strong knowledge of computer and SoC architecture, including memory hierarchy, interrupts, DMA, coherency, interconnects, caches, and peripheral interfaces.
• Skilled in embedded system debugging tools such as JTAG, trace, logs, emulators, serial debuggers, and logic analyzers.
• Experience with Linux environments and/or RTOS usage.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively across global teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing firmware for data centers, cloud, AI accelerators, or high-performance platforms.
• Expertise in inter-processor communication, transport layers, telemetry, diagnostics, logging, profiling tools, virtualization, platform management, performance optimization, or firmware automation.
• Familiarity with high-speed interfaces like PCIe or LPDDR.
• Experience with Embedded Linux build systems such as Yocto, Buildroot, or OpenEmbedded and Linux kernel development.
• Knowledge of source/configuration management tools like Git and Gerrit as well as unit testing, code coverage, static analysis, and performance analysis.
• Proven ability to collaborate with external partners including silicon vendors and manufacturing teams.
• Track record of influencing technical decisions across teams without formal authority.

Leadership Expectations

• Serve as the technical lead for major firmware areas, making responsible design choices and escalating architectural issues as needed.
• Balance hands-on coding with coordinating technical activities including integration and debugging.
• Align multi-team deliverables, managing interfaces, assumptions, and risk clarity.
• Mentor team members, foster higher engineering standards through reviews and guidance.
• Identify integration and lifecycle risks early and implement mitigations proactively.
• Contribute to architectural and roadmap decisions partnering with senior leaders on cross-domain strategy.
