Role Overview

As a Staff Backend Engineer on our Communication Team, you will design and develop resilient systems capable of processing millions of live messages from cattle collars and towers. You'll work on scaling our infrastructure globally, leverage AWS-native technologies such as Kinesis and SNS/SQS, and continuously enhance system reliability and fault tolerance.

Key responsibilities include leading complex cross-disciplinary troubleshooting alongside firmware, hardware, and product teams; managing technical projects with clear scoping and communication; automating collar and tower deployments for seamless customer experience; and mentoring peers to promote technical growth and evolution at scale.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experienced backend engineer with a history of scaling distributed systems in production environments.
• Proficient with AWS or familiar with other modern cloud platforms.
• Knowledgeable in infrastructure as code tools like Terraform and experienced with load testing and chaos engineering methodologies.
• Comfortable with messaging protocols such as MQTT and TCP/IP, as well as cloud-native messaging systems like Kinesis and SNS/SQS.
• Strong analytical and debugging abilities with a data-informed approach to problem-solving.
• Experienced in managing systems requiring continuous uptime and availability.
• Collaborative and growth-oriented mindset, open to feedback and rapid development cycles.
• Prior experience with LoRa technology is a significant advantage.
