Reporting to the Financial Accounting Superintendent, this role will oversee and drive the SOX readiness program for our commercial team in New Zealand. You will coordinate efforts across Finance, Procurement, Internal Controls, and related operational and technical control owners to ensure remediation actions are addressed, documentation is audit-ready, and controls are embedded into regular operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a straightforward delivery plan tracking open tasks, responsible owners, deadlines, dependencies, and milestones.
- Establish and manage a consistent rhythm of delivery, including following up on actions, identifying risks, and escalating issues for overdue or blocked items.
- Create concise progress reports highlighting completed actions, risks, priorities, and decisions for stakeholders.
- Assist in remediating priority control issues across Finance, Procurement, and other non-financial control functions.
- Support control owners by refining process descriptions, control narratives, evidence templates, and remediation plans.
- Review supporting evidence for completeness and practical applicability prior to management and audit reviews.
- Collaborate constructively with internal teams to complete agreed actions efficiently.
- Clearly communicate control requirements and evidence expectations to control owners and reviewers.
- Facilitate targeted sessions to resolve issues and prepare teams for audit walkthroughs and testing.
- Maintain an overall perspective on the SOX readiness status, including risks, unresolved issues, and subsequent steps.
- Contribute to governance updates, internal reviews, and preparation for external audits.
- Deliver a comprehensive handover summarizing completed work, outstanding items, key risks, and ongoing ownership at the conclusion of the contract.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant background in accounting, auditing, risk management, internal controls, finance transformation, or project delivery.
- Professional qualifications in accounting, auditing, risk, or project management are advantageous but not mandatory.
- New Zealand work eligibility or valid visa required.
- Proven experience in coordinating internal controls, SOX readiness projects, audit remediation, or similar initiatives within financial environments.
- Capability to manage action plans, track owner accountability, monitor risks, and provide clear updates.
- Practical knowledge of financial controls, audit evidence preparation, process documentation, and audit walkthroughs.
- Able to work collaboratively with Finance, Procurement, and non-financial control stakeholders.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint. Experience with Workiva, Blackline, or comparable platforms is a plus.
Additional Information
- This role is predominantly office-based in Dunedin, with some travel to Macraes and Waihi mines as needed.
- Work schedule follows a 9-day fortnight roster: five days then two days off, four days then three days off, with work hours from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
- Benefits include a monthly health and wellbeing allowance, retail and service discounts, participation in the Living Our Values recognition program, and access to the OceanaGold Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
- The company fosters an inclusive and respectful work environment aligned with its core values: Care, Respect, Integrity, Performance, and Teamwork.
