Software Development Manager - Linux Kernel, Amazon Linux

Overview

Amazon is seeking a seasoned engineering leader to oversee and expand a team dedicated to Amazon Linux, a GNU/Linux distribution that supports Amazon EC2 workloads, various AWS services, and internal software stacks. The role centers on managing key Linux kernel components focusing on security, performance, live patching, and live updates.

Role Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of 8-12 skilled engineers collaborating with internal teams and open-source communities.
• Drive ongoing enhancements for system efficiency, flexibility, security, and availability across Amazon's global server infrastructure.
• Manage software development projects including planning, execution, and delivery in alignment with customer requirements and business priorities.
• Develop and implement advanced software engineering practices and contribute to hiring and team growth.
• Engage in frequent 1:1 interactions with team members and organizational leaders to support professional development and project success.
• Prepare and review technical documents, project narratives, and communicate status updates regularly.

About the Team

The team maintains the Linux kernel for Amazon Linux, which plays a vital role in EC2 and AWS services. Responsibilities include performance engineering, security management, and feature development to enhance kernel usability.

Work Environment
