Software Development Engineer - Simple Email Service at AWS

About The Role

You will join AWS Applied AI Solutions, focused on creating business applications that leverage Amazon’s expertise for millions of companies worldwide. This role involves building innovative, user-friendly technology solutions that address persistent business challenges, helping customers prefer buying over building by offering trusted, turnkey solutions.

As a Software Development Engineer on the Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) team, you will be instrumental in redefining email communication for people and applications. Your work will involve backend and customer-facing systems, developing scalable and reliable email services to support a vast global customer base.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement highly available, scalable backend services for SES.
• Collaborate with engineers and customers to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Participate in strategic planning to influence the direction of the service.
• Ensure system fault tolerance and reliability, including taking on-call duties to promptly resolve issues and prevent recurrence.
• Contribute to fostering a culture of creativity, innovation, knowledge sharing, and mentorship within the team.

Preferred Background

• Professional experience in software development beyond internships.
• Design and architecture experience with focus on scalability, reliability, and design patterns.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field is preferred.
• Familiarity with the full software development lifecycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
