About Thales
Thales is a renowned global technology leader that supports governments, institutions, and enterprises in managing their most demanding challenges. Their expertise ranges from quantum computing and artificial intelligence to cybersecurity and 6G development, empowering mission-critical decisions anchored in human expertise. Operating at the cutting edge of aerospace, space exploration, cybersecurity, and digital identity, Thales is committed to building a secure and trustworthy future. In Singapore, since 1973, they have employed 2,000 staff across three locations and provide advanced solutions for sectors including aerospace, air traffic management, defense, security, digital identity, and cybersecurity.
Role Responsibilities
- Ensure architectural choices align with business goals, including scalability, security, availability, performance, cost management, and regulatory adherence.
- Serve as the authoritative technical lead for the D1 architecture, guaranteeing its evolution matches the organizational cloud strategy, technology roadmap, and reuse policies.
- Design and maintain the comprehensive software architecture framework for D1, covering application layers, integration approaches, APIs, data flows, and infrastructure interdependencies.
- Define and document key architectural principles, reference frameworks, and reusable components aligned with the product's strategic vision.
- Approve significant architectural decisions and evaluate technical trade-offs related to performance, risk, cost, and maintainability.
- Produce and keep up-to-date architecture documentation using tools like IcePanel.
- Establish cloud-native architectural styles such as microservices, event-driven systems, containerization, Kubernetes, and serverless technologies.
- Guarantee inherent scalability, resilience, high availability, and disaster recovery capabilities.
- Lead strategies for multi-tenancy, data segregation, and environment partitioning.
- Participate in financial operations (FinOps) by advocating cost-conscious architecture decisions.
- Support cloud transformation projects and contribute to modernization initiatives.
- Provide technical leadership and support to squad leaders during design and implementation phases.
- Engage in backlog refinement for features impacting architecture.
- Assist in prioritizing technical enablers and architectural refinements.
- Facilitate technical decision-making and resolve inter-squad technical disputes.
- Champion best practices in DevOps, continuous integration/delivery, automation, and system observability.
- Integrate security considerations from the outset, working with security teams to align with engineering security standards.
- Incorporate compliance requirements, such as data privacy and PCI DSS where relevant, into design.
- Address non-functional needs like performance, robustness, auditability, and traceability early in the design phase.
- Stay current on trends in cloud technologies, SaaS, DevOps, and software architecture, seeking innovation opportunities.
- Promote reuse of components, simplify architectures, and reduce technical debt.
- Contribute actively to internal engineering communities and knowledge exchange, especially among squad technical leaders.
Candidate Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- At least 8 to 10 years of experience in software engineering, with substantial expertise in solution or software architecture in cloud or SaaS settings.
- Strong strategic and analytical skills with the ability to make structured decisions and offer constructive challenges.
- Deep technical knowledge in cloud architecture (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure), Kubernetes, containerization, microservices design, API development (RESTful, event-driven, messaging systems), and database architectures including SQL and NoSQL.
- Experience in continuous integration/continuous delivery pipelines and DevOps methodologies.
- Proficiency in observability techniques such as logging, monitoring, and tracing.
- Expertise in performance tuning and scalability engineering.
- Familiarity with software security fundamentals, including identity and access management, encryption, and secure coding practices.
- Awareness of regulatory constraints such as GDPR and PCI DSS is an advantage.
Work Culture
