Role Summary

The Shift Supervisor supports the Store Manager by managing daily retail operations, ensuring smooth and continuous service at the thrift store located at 275 Main St., Fredericton, NB. When not supervising, this role also performs sales associate duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage with customers and donors courteously and positively.
• Safeguard the quality and integrity of all donated merchandise.
• Accurately process all customer transactions involving cash and debit payments.
• Help achieve store financial goals by maintaining high customer service standards.
• Open and close the store according to established procedures as needed.
• Manage the processing of donations including loading, unloading, sorting, packing, pricing, and storing.
• Maintain in-depth stock knowledge to address customer inquiries in person or by phone.
• Monitor store activity attentively to maintain security.
• Handle merchandise safely and methodically, assisting with stock rotation.
• Support inventory control through receiving, sorting, and pricing items following directives.
• Contribute to store layout planning including window and merchandise displays to enhance attractiveness.
• Keep the store organized and tidy, replenishing stock as instructed and removing inventory from the sales floor when directed.
• Ensure all donated goods meet quality standards through proper processing.
• Maintain cleanliness by tidying, restocking shelves, sweeping, dusting, and mopping as required.
• Adhere strictly to store policies and procedures.
• Assist with inventory cycle counting and reconciliation.
• Provide excellent service to both guests and donors.
• Serve as Team Lead or Acting Supervisor for Store Associates during the Store Manager's absence, including providing on-the-job training.
• Maintain a safe and healthy workplace by complying with all Health & Safety regulations.
• Perform additional related tasks as assigned.

Relationships

• Internal: Collaborate with NRO Administration, Thrift Store management, and staff.
• External: Engage with donors, clients, and contractors.

Management Details

• Reports directly to the Store Manager.
• No direct reports but may provide procedural guidance to others.

Financial and Material Responsibilities

• Holds moderate responsibility for materials.
• May occasionally handle small amounts of cash.

Working Conditions

• This is a full-time, permanent position based in a typical retail store environment.
• Physical demands include continuous effort such as stretching, lifting (up to 30 lbs independently), bending, twisting, pushing, standing, and walking.
• Exposure to fumes, dust, and temperature changes is frequent.
• Must meet established deadlines.
• Work may involve frequent interpersonal conflict resolution with guests, donors, vendors, and colleagues.
• Tasks vary but can include periods of repetition.
• Wearing safety shoes at all times within Store and Donation Receiving Centre locations is mandatory.

Qualifications and Experience

• Commitment to understanding and supporting the mission and values of The Salvation Army in Canada.
• Compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act and internal safety guidelines.
• An alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Completion of some high school education.
• At least two years of experience in retail store or warehouse settings.

Skills and Capabilities

• Excellent people skills and effective communication with a strong team collaboration spirit.
• Physically capable of lifting and carrying items up to 30 pounds frequently without assistance, including activities involving bending, twisting, and pushing.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to successfully pass relevant background and screening checks as required by the organization.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is between $15.91 and $19.89 per hour, with a maximum possible of $23.86 per hour. Placement within this range is influenced by factors such as experience, market conditions, and relevant qualifications.
