Position Summary
This Shift Supervisor role based at 230 Sage Hill Blvd. NW Unit 600, Calgary, AB, supports the Store Manager with daily operational tasks to ensure smooth thrift store activities. When necessary, the position also serves as a Sales Associate.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage positively and courteously with customers and donors.
- Safeguard the integrity of all donated goods.
- Accurately complete customer transactions, including cash and debit sales.
- Help achieve store budgets by maintaining high customer service standards.
- Open and close the store per established procedures when requested.
- Process donations: loading/unloading, sorting, packing, pricing, and storage.
- Maintain product knowledge to respond to inquiries via phone or in person.
- Monitor store activity to ensure security.
- Handle merchandise safely and help rotate stock effectively.
- Assist in inventory control by receiving, sorting, and pricing goods as directed.
- Support store layout design, including window and merchandise displays, to attract customers and maintain an appealing, tidy store environment.
- Restock inventory per supervisor instructions and remove items from the sales floor when needed.
- Ensure proper sorting and processing of donations in line with quality standards.
- Keep the store organized and clean, including tidying shelves, sweeping, dusting, and mopping.
- Adhere to store policies and procedures.
- Assist with inventory reconciliation through cycle counts.
- Provide exceptional service to guests and donors.
- Lead and supervise store associates in the absence of the Store Manager.
- Offer on-the-job training and operational guidance to staff as required.
- Maintain a safe workplace by complying with Health & Safety standards.
- Complete other work duties as assigned.
Relationships and Reporting
Works internally with NRO administration and store management and externally with donors, clients, and contractors. Reports directly to the Store Manager with no direct reports.
Responsibilities and Authority
- May demonstrate procedures to coworkers.
- Moderate responsibility for materials and occasional handling of petty cash.
Working Conditions
- Permanent full-time role operating in a typical store environment.
- Requires continuous physical activity such as lifting up to 30 pounds independently, bending, twisting, pushing, standing, and walking.
- Frequent exposure to fumes, dust, and varying temperatures.
- Must meet established deadlines.
- Handling frequent interpersonal conflicts involving guests, donors, vendors, and staff.
- Work includes repetitive tasks along with variety.
Education and Experience
- Completion of some high school education.
- Minimum two years’ experience working in a retail store or warehouse environment.
Skills and Capabilities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to collaborate in a team.
- Physically able to lift and move products weighing up to 30 pounds without assistance.
- Close attention to detail.
Additional Requirements
Must successfully pass applicable screening and background checks as required by The Salvation Army.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $19.19 to $24.00 per hour, with a maximum of $28.79, based on market factors, internal equity, and candidate qualifications.
