Position Overview
The Christmas Kettle Coordinator is a short-term contract role responsible for managing multiple kettle locations in a designated zone, including shopping centers and retail stores. The coordinator oversees campaign workers, ensures adequate staffing, and manages operational logistics of the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in training on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
- Assist with delivering kettles to locations before shifts begin.
- Securely manage donations after shifts.
- Communicate daily issues and resource needs to supervisors.
- Orient and supervise staff and volunteers in kettle handling and duties.
- Monitor kettle sites during shifts and ensure coverage during breaks.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of timesheets and mileage reports weekly.
- Answer donor inquiries about The Salvation Army’s ministries and programs.
- Recruit, orient, and manage volunteers and staff, coordinating schedules and addressing absences.
- Maintain positive relationships with kettle sites and oversee supply availability.
- Manage the collection, security, and handling of donations and petty cash.
- Organize post-campaign equipment retrieval and complete related administrative tasks.
Financial and Material Responsibilities
- Safeguard and manage cash donations and petty cash.
- Ensure only prudent use of resources while occasionally handling minor cash disbursements.
Working Conditions
- This position is temporary and concludes by January 8, 2027.
- Work hours may vary, including day, afternoon, evening, weekend, and split shifts Monday through Saturday, with a half-hour unpaid meal break.
- Flexibility to adjust hours based on operational needs is required.
- Work primarily occurs in malls and stores, involving long periods of standing and exposure to cold.
- Appropriate Salvation Army identification must be worn.
- Local travel is a part of the role.
Education and Certification
- Some high school education is required; completion is considered an advantage.
- Candidates must successfully pass background checks, including The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
Experience and Qualifications
- Between one to two years of related customer service experience.
- Handling money and coordinating volunteers are desirable.
- Supervisory or management experience is beneficial.
- Skills in budgeting, financial record keeping, and office applications such as Word and Excel are expected.
- Familiarity with community resources is an asset.
Skills and Abilities
- Valid Nova Scotia Class 5 driver’s license with personal vehicle and insurance, plus an acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to multitask, detail orientation, problem-solving, and analytical capabilities.
- Physical ability to lift items between 9 to 12 kilograms (20 to 25 pounds).
- Team-oriented, honest, reliable, and professional demeanor.
- Commitment to confidentiality and organizational policies, including health and safety regulations.

Salary Information
The salary range for this position starts at $16.50 and can go up to $23.86 per hour, with placement based on experience, qualifications, and market conditions.
