Role Overview

We are seeking a Shepherd General eager to learn, engage hands-on, and establish a solid foundation in farming practices. This permanent, full-time position based in Christchurch offers the chance to develop practical skills under the guidance of experienced farming leaders.

Key Responsibilities

• Handling livestock and performing stock-related duties.
• Maintaining fences, water systems, and performing general farm upkeep.
• Managing feed and grazing operations.
• Participating in seasonal farming programs including mating and animal health activities.
• Ensuring adherence to health, safety, and environmental protocols.
• Supporting overall farm operations in the broader business context.

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate is motivated to learn and highly reliable with a practical approach. While prior farming experience is beneficial, it is not essential.

• Strong interest in agriculture and animal husbandry.
• Dependability, motivation, and a diligent work ethic.
• Commitment to health and safety standards.
• Possession of a valid New Zealand driver’s license.
• Willingness to embrace and learn Ngāi Tahu values, tikanga, and te reo Māori.
