Senior Welding Inspector

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct welding inspections throughout fabrication, construction, maintenance, and shutdown operations.
• Examine and validate Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification records (WQT/WPQ).
• Perform visual assessments before, during, and after welding work.
• Observe and supervise welding processes ensuring adherence to approved procedures and project specifications.
• Coordinate and oversee Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods including Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Penetrant Testing (PT), and Positive Material Identification (PMI).
• Review material certifications, welding consumables, and traceability documentation.
• Document inspection outcomes, create punch lists, and maintain quality-related reports.
• Detect welding defects and propose corrective as well as preventive measures.
• Interface with clients, contractors, and third-party inspectors regarding inspection procedures.
• Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards such as ASME, API, AWS, ISO, along with client-specific requirements.
• Supervise heat treatment processes (Post Weld Heat Treatment - PWHT) and verify temperature logs.
• Support quality audits and overall project quality assurance frameworks.
• Promote adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies ensuring safe working practices onsite.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related technical discipline.
• Possess valid Welding Inspector certification such as CSWIP 3.2/3.1, AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), or equivalent.
• Preferred certifications include NDT Level II in RT, UT, MT, and PT (e.g., ASNT, ISO 9712, PCN).
• API certifications (API 570, 510, 653, 580, or 579) are beneficial.
• Comprehensive understanding of welding processes including SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SAW.

Experience

• At least 8 to 10 years of welding inspection experience within Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Refinery, LNG, offshore, or industrial environments.
• Experience working in fabrication yards, construction locations, maintenance, and shutdown projects.
• Demonstrated expertise in client-facing inspection roles and familiarity with quality management systems.

Skills & Competencies

• In-depth knowledge of welding codes and standards.
• Strong skills in report preparation and documentation.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, isometric drawings, and welding symbols.
• Effective communication and coordination capabilities.
• High attention to detail combined with problem-solving aptitude.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and inspection reporting platforms.

Preferred Certifications

• CSWIP Welding Inspector 3.2 or 3.1
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
• API 570, API 510, API 653 Certifications
• NDT Level II certifications in RT, UT, MT, PT
• ISO 9001 Internal Auditor qualification
• Additional H2S and Offshore Safety Certifications if applicable
