Senior Sonography Technician / Technologist

Job Overview

This position involves performing comprehensive ultrasound examinations and supporting radiologists in complex and interventional ultrasound procedures. Key duties focus on ensuring accurate imaging, patient safety, and cooperation with the clinical team.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct ultrasound scans including abdomen, pelvic region, obstetric, and breast ultrasounds.
• Submit and discuss captured images with radiologists for diagnostic reporting.
• Seek radiologist consultation during challenging cases throughout the examination process.
• Verify accurate patient identification and confirm the examination site before procedures.
• Clarify the ultrasound process and assist patients in positioning appropriately for optimal imaging.
• Choose suitable transducers and adjust machine settings to match the anatomical area being scanned.
• Input necessary patient details into ultrasound device systems to archive images properly.
• Record and transfer imaging data to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
• Maintain detailed patient logs in the logbook consistently.
• Ensure ultrasound rooms are tidy and well-organized at all times.
• Assist radiologists during special interventions such as biopsies and fluid drainage procedures.
• Keep current with sterile techniques and relevant nursing procedures applicable to ultrasound services.
• Adhere to hospital policies, emergency protocols, and safety regulations.
• Provide education to patients and their families about diagnoses, treatments, and preventive care when relevant.
• Fulfill additional tasks delegated within the job's scope and responsibilities.

Qualifications and Skills

• Effective communicator capable of interacting clearly with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare staff.
• At least two years of continuous post-diploma experience in ultrasonography practice.
• Educational background: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in radiography, medical technology, or related field with specialized ultrasonography training.
• Proficient in oral and written English; Arabic language knowledge is an advantage.
• Valid sonography practice license issued by relevant regional health authorities such as SCFHS or DHA.
