Senior Rust Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Rust Engineer to join an expanding tech organization focused on building state-of-the-art data infrastructure platforms. This role primarily involves designing, creating, and enhancing high-performance backend systems capable of processing vast datasets efficiently, reliably, and at scale.

Working alongside a proficient engineering team, you will apply your expertise in Rust, asynchronous programming, and distributed systems to tackle complex technical issues, guide architectural choices, and support the evolution of a critical platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend systems using Rust and Java.
• Construct scalable, dependable asynchronous services utilizing current concurrency models.
• Create APIs, internal tools, reusable libraries, and frameworks to support engineering tasks.
• Engage in architectural design and technical decision-making processes.
• Develop solutions tailored to large-scale data processing demands.
• Enhance throughput, reduce latency, optimize memory use, and improve I/O operations.
• Refine memory ownership, buffer management, and data serialization methods.
• Detect and resolve performance issues spanning distributed systems.
• Ensure readiness for production via thorough testing, debugging, monitoring, and code reviews.
• Promote improvements that enhance scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and platform teams to achieve business objectives.
• Own technically challenging and ambiguous problems, leading them to resolution.
• Contribute to engineering best practices, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
• Work efficiently with global teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of five years in software engineering, with substantial Java programming experience.
• At least two years of practical commercial experience using Rust in production environments.
• Strong proficiency in asynchronous Rust programming, preferably with Tokio.
• Thorough understanding of Rust’s memory management concepts including ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, allocations, and buffer handling.
• Proven record in developing and deploying distributed systems or high-performance backend services.
• Expertise in concurrency control, backpressure management, cancellation mechanisms, streams, and asynchronous execution models.
• Experience in creating APIs, internal libraries, or reusable software frameworks.
• Advanced skills in debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
• Ability to independently solve complex technical problems and see solutions through delivery.
• Strong communication abilities and experience engaging with stakeholders.
