Role Overview

Join the Unstructured Data Storage (UDS) team within ISG, delivering core components of the Dell AI Platform—PowerScale and ObjectScale—that provide AI-ready storage aimed at the most data-intensive challenges worldwide. As a Senior Principal Software Engineer based in Cork, you will contribute to building enterprise-grade, massively scalable, clustered, high-performance, and resilient storage systems. Our products include multi-petabyte S3 object stores and scale-out NAS platforms developed with high velocity using modern engineering practices, AI tools, and specification-driven development.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all software development lifecycle phases: planning, requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
• Create and maintain comprehensive technical specifications.
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, AI agents, and engineers to craft and implement technical solutions.
• Lead and mentor small teams or multiple teams, contributing to team growth and success.

Essential Qualifications

• At least 8 years of strong programming experience, with proficiency in C, C++, Java, or Python and solid understanding of programming principles.
• Experience in filesystem or distributed systems development.
• Ability to convert business requirements into clear, precise, and unambiguous technical specifications.
• Outstanding analytical, debugging, and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficient in advanced prompting and context engineering to effectively utilize AI tools.
• Robust background in software architecture encompassing system design, API development, microservices, and distributed systems.

Desirable Skills

• Experience in performance engineering to optimize system efficiency.
• Familiarity with systems and storage protocols such as NFS, SMB, and S3, including understanding of networking, kernel/filesystem queues, and caching mechanisms.
• Knowledge of leveraging machine learning and AI for anomaly detection, pattern recognition, and agent orchestration.
