About the Role
In the position of Senior Platform Engineer, you will lead advancements in operating system image management and automation across the organisation's infrastructure. This role focuses on designing, developing, and continuously improving automated platforms for operating system builds and configuration management. You will be pivotal in implementing and enhancing Image Factory capabilities, working collaboratively within an engineering team to deliver secure, standardised, and automated operating system platforms supporting both on-premises and cloud services.
Key Responsibilities and Skills
- Lead design and implementation of automation solutions encompassing requirements gathering to deployment and operational support.
- Manage operating system building standards including provisioning, patching, upgrades, vulnerability remediation, and compliance for Windows and Linux.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure automation using tools like Packer, Terraform, and Ansible.
- Create and optimize scripts and automation tools using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
- Work with source control and collaborative development processes using Git-based platforms such as GitHub or Bitbucket.
- Administer CI/CD pipelines through tools like Jenkins, CloudBees, GitLab CI, and Azure DevOps.
- Support enterprise platforms ensuring high availability, resilience, and security.
- Desirable expertise includes VMware technologies (vSphere, Aria Suite), containerisation with Docker and Kubernetes, networking fundamentals (VLANs, subnets, firewalls), Agile methodologies, vulnerability and patch management platforms (Nessus, MECM, Red Hat Satellite), experience within complex or regulated environments, exposure to hybrid cloud infrastructure, and formal IT-related qualifications.
