Senior Medical Physicist

Job Overview

This role involves applying physics and technical expertise within standard medical care to support treatment of diseases, particularly working in a Radiotherapy department where specialized equipment and procedures are developed, tested, and assessed.

Primary Duties

• Collaborate with radiation oncologists and team members to plan and review radiotherapy treatment regimens.
• Contribute technical information to patient reports in partnership with Radiation Oncologists.
• Train and guide junior medical physicists and radiotherapy technicians on equipment use and new protocols to maintain optimal practices.
• Provide advice to healthcare staff including technicians and nurses regarding standard radiotherapy procedures.
• Negotiate with Radiation Oncologists to select the most suitable radiotherapy methods based on current evidence.
• Process complex patient imagery during treatment planning and verification phases.
• Serve as on-call physicist to address issues and offer technical support as required.
• Investigate and assess novel radiotherapy advancements and review existing protocols ensuring alignment with evidence-based standards.
• Advise on procurement of new radiotherapy equipment and lead implementation of updates or upgrades.
• Commission new or upgraded equipment to assure adherence to best practices.
• Conduct periodic equipment monitoring and ensure maintenance is timely and consistent.
• Create and enforce operational policies for radiotherapy hardware.
• Develop and implement radiation safety procedures conforming to care guidelines and local regulatory requirements.
• Manage quality control efforts across all radiotherapy devices.
• Perform dosimetry for radiotherapy machines to verify dosage accuracy.
• Inform patients and families regarding their health status, treatments, and preventive measures when appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience

• Computer proficiency.
• At least five years of relevant experience in medical physics within radiotherapy.
• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Physics or an equivalent qualification.
• Fluency in English and Arabic.
• Valid professional license as required by regional health authorities (e.g., SCFHS, DHA).
