Senior Manager, Solutions Architecture - Data (AWS)

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced technical leader to shape and execute the data strategy for a multi-billion-dollar enterprise at Amazon Web Services (AWS). This pivotal position entails leading a geographically diverse team of Specialist Solutions Architects specializing in storage, database, and analytics across the Asia Pacific, Japan, and China (APJC) regions. In this role, you will serve as a strategic technical advisor to senior leadership, sponsor major customer engagements, and ensure customers' data estates are prepared for AI and agentic computing advancements.

Key Responsibilities

• Recruit, onboard, train, and mentor Specialist Solutions Architects in storage, database, and analytics fields, establishing a high-performing team distributed over six geographic regions covering multiple time zones.
• Develop and uphold the technical data strategy for APJC, including defining reference architectures, best practices, and crafting technical narratives to ready customers' data infrastructures for AI/agentic workloads.
• Act as the executive-level technical sponsor and principal escalation contact for strategic and complex customer projects.
• Function as the chief technical advisor to the Head of Data, translating customer insights into actionable strategies.
• Bridge communication between customers, internal service teams, and support to relay roadmap feedback and address competitive shortcomings to product leadership.
• Enhance team impact by creating scalable mechanisms, reusable assets, and comprehensive enablement to extend capabilities beyond individual engagements.

Typical Work Day

Begin the day coaching a Solutions Architect on sophisticated analytics modernization architecture. Progress to representing AWS as an executive sponsor during C-level briefings advocating for legacy systems migration to support AI initiatives. Late afternoon involves resolving escalated issues, reviewing reusable architecture templates, and incorporating customer feedback into product roadmaps. This role seamlessly integrates team leadership, strategic technical involvement, and enterprise advisory responsibilities with metrics of success focused on technical excellence and team growth.

Team Environment

This leadership role oversees the Specialist Solutions Architect function within the APJC Data Go-To-Market team. Collaboration with BD, Sales Specialists, account teams, and partners is essential. Strong leaders who combine deep technical expertise with effective people management and can align regional market demands with global objectives will excel.

Required Qualifications

• Eight or more years of leadership experience managing technical teams such as solution architects or sales engineers.
• Proven ability to influence senior executives and stakeholders.
• At least ten years of professional experience in technology solutions architecture, technical sales, or consulting, with substantial expertise in at least one data domain: storage, database, or analytics.
• Experience handling large-scale data workloads, including databases, data warehouses/analytics, and storage system architecture.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing large, multi-location and multilingual teams.
• Broad technical proficiency across storage, relational and NoSQL databases, and analytics/data warehousing with deep expertise in at least one area.
• Experience preparing data foundations for AI/ML and agentic workloads through modernization and appropriate data platform services.
• Demonstrated ability to drive scalable impact through mechanisms, reusable tools, and enablement programs.
• Relevant cloud certifications and advanced degrees such as an MBA or MS in Computer Science or Engineering preferred.
