Role Overview

We are seeking a committed and empathetic Senior Healthcare Support Worker to join the Orthopaedic Nursing Team in 4 East Orthopaedics. This position offers an excellent chance for an experienced Healthcare Support Worker to enhance their skills within Scotland's premier national elective orthopaedic centre.

The role involves assisting both clinical and non-clinical care with collaboration alongside Registered Nurses and the multidisciplinary team to deliver superior patient-centred care.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist Registered Nurses with high-quality care including personal and skin care, nutritional and hydration support.
• Take and document routine clinical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, oxygen levels, and blood glucose.
• Support patient admissions, discharges, and transfers under nurse supervision.
• Perform extended clinical tasks like venepuncture, ECGs, wound management, MRSA screening, and urinalysis.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
• Maintain a safe, clean clinical area through housekeeping and environmental duties.
• Assist with administrative, clerical, and portering duties as required.
• Contribute to continuous service improvements ensuring positive patient outcomes and experiences.

Candidate Requirements

• Possession of SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care.
• Experience working within clinical healthcare settings.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Baseline proficiency in IT applications.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Skills in monitoring vital signs, wound care, and venepuncture.
• Knowledge of Data Protection, Caldicott principles, and patient confidentiality.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Genuine interest in supporting patients, relatives, and team members.

Experience supporting colleagues in healthcare is desirable.
