Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a high-impact platform team charged with building and maintaining critical infrastructure and foundational products used across Rippling. Responsibilities include managing multiple key technical areas such as Data Deletion, Webscripts, Internationalisation, and the Rippling Config Service. This role requires a blend of strategic leadership, collaboration across product and infrastructure teams, and hands-on involvement to build scalable, compliant, and reliable systems that enhance platform efficiency and product quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and expand a team of engineers focused on vital platform charters.
• Own the technical direction and implementation for Data Deletion, Webscripts, Internationalisation, and Rippling Config Service.
• Collaborate with product, design, compliance, security, and infrastructure partners to establish roadmaps and ensure delivery.
• Conduct architecture reviews to maintain system reliability, scalability, maintainability, and security.
• Set standards for ownership, operational excellence, and engineering quality across platform domains.
• Balance immediate product demands with long-term platform development goals.
• Mentor senior engineers and leads to foster technical growth and leadership skills.
• Enhance execution through meticulous planning, prioritization, metrics, incident analysis, and ongoing process improvements.
• Represent the team in cross-functional meetings and articulate tradeoffs decisively to senior leadership.

Candidate Profile

• Over 12 years of experience in software engineering, including at least 3 years in engineering leadership roles.
• Proven experience managing teams in platform, infrastructure, developer productivity, or similarly shared product environments.
• Strong expertise in distributed systems, data modeling, APIs, system reliability, and scalability.
• Successful track record managing ambiguous, cross-disciplinary projects with multiple stakeholders.
• Experience in guiding senior engineers and coordinating alignment between cross-functional teams.
• Disciplined in roadmap development, project execution, operational metrics, and incident handling.
• Ability to harmonize rapid product delivery with maintaining high platform quality standards.
• Excellent communication skills, especially in explaining technical decisions and tradeoffs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with data privacy, compliance, data lifecycle management, or data deletion regulations such as GDPR and CCPA.
• Experience creating internal platforms or frameworks leveraged across multiple product teams.
• Knowledge of internationalisation and localisation systems.
• Expertise with configuration platforms, feature rollout, and policy management systems.
• Background in low-code, scripting, workflow, or extensibility engine platforms.
