Role Overview

The Senior Engineering Manager will lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation teams responsible for user experience aspects including dashboards, visualizations, navigation, search, and resource organization within the Grafana ecosystem. This role demands leadership in performance management, delivery oversight, customer engagement, and the continuous adoption of AI and automation to enhance development workflows and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and support two distributed engineering teams by clarifying expectations, coaching team members, providing constructive feedback, and fostering a culture of accountability and trust.
• Direct hiring strategies and resource planning aligning with product objectives and long-term organizational goals.
• Lead product discovery efforts involving customer and community input plus data analysis to inform roadmap and prioritization decisions.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and engineering leadership to balance priorities, address dependencies, and make informed trade-offs.
• Ensure successful delivery and deployment of features from conception to launch while proactively managing risks.
• Integrate AI tools into management processes for research synthesis, roadmap planning, coordination, and reporting, promoting efficiency.
• Drive process improvements and leverage automation to boost team productivity, delivery quality, and reduce repetitive tasks.
• Define and uphold frontend engineering standards relating to architecture, developer experience, accessibility, tooling, reliability, and security.
• Guide the teams in developing navigation, search, and resource organization features including AI-assisted discovery capabilities.
• Participate in an engineering management on-call schedule, overseeing incident responses and leveraging Grafana's AI observability tools for continuous improvements.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience leading senior engineers, growing healthy engineering teams, and cultivating technical leadership skills.
• Strong background in modern frontend technologies enabling evaluation of technical trade-offs and architectural decision-making.
• Experienced in converting ambiguous, cross-functional challenges into prioritized, measurable outcomes under operational constraints.
• Demonstrated product focus with strong customer understanding and ability to connect engineering efforts to business value.
• Excellent communication skills suited for remote collaboration in a global, distributed environment.
• Familiarity with open-source culture and balancing enterprise and community needs in software delivery.
• Hands-on experience applying AI and automation in leadership processes and guiding teams in their adoption.

Additional Desired Qualifications

• Expertise with React, TypeScript, or similar large-scale frontend ecosystems.
• Experience managing developer platform teams with plugin or extension support.
• Background in navigation, search functions, information architecture, or resource management products.
• Track record of delivering multitenant SaaS solutions or overseeing major platform migrations.
• Contributions to or involvement with widely used open-source projects.

Compensation and Benefits

For candidates in the United Kingdom, the base salary range spans GBP 117,949 to GBP 141,539, with actual compensation determined by experience, skills, and role level. Employees also receive Restricted Stock Units, promoting shared ownership in the company’s success. Compensation parameters vary by location and are discussed during the recruitment process.
