Role Summary

This position is an opportunity to grow your career as a Senior Electrical & Controls Engineer within AECOM's Energy & Industrial team based in Auckland, New Zealand. The role involves leading electrical design, instrumentation, and control-related work packages across projects varying in complexity and size. You'll work closely with senior technical leaders, gaining expertise that spans the energy transition and allied sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and oversee production of documentation, including single line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, control devices, lighting, and SCADA systems for varied applications.
• Lead end-to-end delivery of work packages covering concept development, detailed design, commissioning, operations, and ongoing site support.
• Ensure technical documentation meets AECOM standards, New Zealand regulations, and client specifications.
• Collaborate with technical leaders to submit work packages timely for internal verification.
• Coordinate with project managers and teams to deliver within stipulated timeframes, budgets, and scopes.
• Support activities such as cost estimation, budgeting, scheduling, contract administration, and construction field reviews.
• Work alongside multidisciplinary teams involving industrial, electrical, controls, automation, process, and mechanical engineering.
• Contribute to client and stakeholder communications to finalize designs and deliverables.
• Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and environmental protocols throughout projects.
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering.
• Mentor junior engineers and support their skill development.

Qualifications and Attributes

• Substantial experience designing and delivering electrical, instrumentation, and controls projects through all stages including commissioning and site operations.
• Expertise creating technical documents such as instrumentation diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and location drawings.
• Experience with street and lighting design for infrastructure considering energy efficiency and site-specific factors.
• Background in low-voltage energy, industrial, and transport projects for both new and existing sites.
• Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships across clients, contractors, and internal teams, capable of explaining complex concepts clearly.
• Proactive problem-solving abilities, managing scope, budget, and timeline independently.
• Thorough knowledge of New Zealand regulations and at least five years of relevant experience.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on multiple projects with effective time and organizational management.
• Experience adapting to fast-paced, multidisciplinary work environments with tight schedules.
• Enthusiasm for continuous growth in technical and consulting skills, including mentoring others.
• Progress towards Chartered Engineer status or willingness to pursue it, supported by a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related discipline.
